Salvador Alapont Masats, founder of Masats, passes away.
On December 20, 2024, Salvador Alapont Masats, founder of Masats and one of the visionaries of the transportation industry, passed away at the age of 97. He leaves an indelible legacy to his family, friends and the industry.
Salvador Alapont Masats began his career in the family passenger transport company S.A. Masats, which later joined as S.A.Masats Transports Generals to the companies Transportes Generales de Olesa and TUISA, managed by his son Salvador. After the death of his son Salvador, the passenger transport company became part of the Tusgsal-Direxis group.
The family transport company was the starting point for Salvador Alapont Masats to make his incursion into the manufacture of pneumatic cylinders for doors, at first under the brand name Alapont S.A., and later moving to the company MASATS S.A. Mr. Salvador’s technological knowledge led him to create complete door systems, and the first electrical equipment for doors.
He also founded the company Bode-Masats SA, specialized in the manufacture of aluminum doors for vehicles, which later also became part of Masats SA.
Masats’ continuous growth positioned the company as a leader in the national market, highlighting the manufacture of the first electric equipment for coach and minibus doors, and marking the beginning of a new technological era. Its commitment to accessibility was key in the development of products such as electric ramps for city buses, improving mobility for people with reduced mobility.
With the entry into the Irizar group as majority shareholder in 2003, and the retirement of Mr. Salvador, the company enters a new stage with a renewed management team, continuing as a minority shareholder the family company Alapont SA.
Today Masats has expanded its products in 110 countries, employs more than 300 people and continues to be an international benchmark in its sector.
In recognition of his outstanding career, the Government of Catalonia awarded Mr. Salvador Alapont the President Macià Medal for Work in 2014, symbolizing his commitment and dedication to the world of transport.
His life was also marked by his great passion for music, as a composer and soloist in the Homs Orchestra, and as a pianist until the end of his days. His loss leaves a void in the industry, but his legacy lives on in the history of Masats and the world of transportation. His vision, determination and innovations will live on for generations to come.
Masats would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends and associates. May he rest in peace.
